M4ID and the Gobee Group are jointly organising the follow-up to the 2017 DesignforHealth convening, HCD UnCut. Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and United States Agency for International Development’s Center for Innovation and Impact (USAID CII), these convenings bring together donors, experts, implementers, and designers to share opportunities for the successful application of design in global health.

While the previous convening focused on conversations around challenges to the adoption of design, this year will see the collective wisdom of the community leveraged to address the issue of accelerating impact in global health through design. The convening will be hosted in Dakar, Senegal, billed as DesignforHealth – Nio Far Dakar. Nio Far is a Senegalese saying in the Wolof that means “we are on” or “we are together”.

Still smiling! The two teams after an intensive but productive couple of days at work

We got right into it with our new partners from Oakland, California, with an exceptionally sunny and warm Helsinki as backdrop. Over two days, we worked together to crystallise the focus of the convening, figured out the contours of key activities, the agenda and facilitation plan as well as brainstormed ideas for creating an unforgettable overall experience for the participants.

M4ID’s Senior Service Designer Palash Singh sums it up, “We made substantial progress figuring out the nuts and bolts of the upcoming convening. We were able to establish a good rhythm and dynamic to see this new partnership through. Working together in person turned out to be necessary and also very collaborative and productive.”

Nio Far indeed!

The convening is scheduled to take place in Dakar between 10-12 April 2019.
