In this role, you will serve as a Qualitative Research consultant for one of Scope’s social impact projects. The project aims to understand youth-driven demand for integrated family planning and reproductive health services (FP/RH) in the private sector in Sierra Leone. The aim is to identify gaps in global and local evidence and practice in consumer-facing demand creation for adolescents and youth in the private sector and provide recommendations for how priority youth markets should be approached and adapted to better serve the FP/RH needs of young people.

The role involves leading a literature review and interviews with stakeholders and facilitating co-creation workshops, in collaboration with research assistants. 

You will be excited and motivated to solve complex social challenges through new people-centric and system-integrated interventions.

Areas of responsibility will include:

  • Conduct a desk review of reproductive health (RH)/family planning (FP) markets for youth in Sierra Leone. 
  • Conduct and document 20-30 key informant interviews, supported by research assistants 
  • Participate in data analysis from across interviews and the desk review to develop insights and identify opportunities
  • Collaborate with team members to design and facilitate co-creation workshops with young people based on the identified opportunities
  • Write selected segments and contribute to the overall production of the final report

In addition, the Consultant shall perform additional related tasks from time to time as directed by Scope.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in public health or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience conducting research in the health sector, preference for experience with reproductive health and family planning and/or young people
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and conduct qualitative research, including analysis
  • Experience in and knowledge of the health sector in Sierra Leone
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to grasp complex topics quickly
  • Team player with the ability and experience to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proactive and self-driven 

Timing and duration 

The work will take place between November 2022 to February 2023, with a total of 45 working days.
